Community Groups

Working with the community

I believe that everyone can enjoy a writing workshop, whatever their age and stage of life, whether they have always written or never written for pleasure before. Learning and physical challenges can be overcome with creativity and care. Spending time creatively is always time well spent. If you would like to book my writing services for your group, please get in touch.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed everything we have done. It has been fantastic, lovely, wonderful and a lot of fun. It has been so interesting! I wish it could go on!” – Lolly, 70, Ramsgate

“I have really enjoyed the life writing group. We had an excellent tutor who provided well-structured and interesting sessions. I have gained a lot from the sessions. I was formally diagnosed with dyslexia when I was forty. I was unsuccessful at school but have gained success in later life. I was pleased with myself in the speed and quality of work I have produced. I would thoroughly recommend the course and tutor.” – Philip, 54, Margate

“I just loved everything about the writing club!” Reuben, 8, Canterbury

Time Out Lunch Club

Sessions with this group up at Route 23 Community Café in Spring Lane Neighbourhood Centre have involved lots of map work and sensory writing.

Wincheap Foundation Primary School

These sessions ran in partnership with the school’s literacy lead, and took the children through a series of creative processes to encourage them to write their own stories in the lead up to Radio 2’s 500 Words competition.

Bright Shadow Ageless Thanet and Zest Groups

These writing groups are for people with dementia and sometimes their loved ones who have accompanied them. They cover a range of activities and topics.

Ageless Thanet, Margate Group

Ten weeks of life writing, encouraging participants to share experiences and people from their lives, as well as to explore their reactions to life today through a variety of fun, accessible writing exercises.

Hythe / Dover Zest Groups

These have been one-off workshops in partnership with other artists. Most recently, I joined songwriter, Natasha Greenham, to create instant group poems which she then set to music, celebrating the words and giving them fresh impact.

Age UK Dover / Deal Groups

These groups explored poetry forms and how they can enable us to express something of our personality very quickly, simply and powerfully to connect us to one another through our experience and character.

Café Courses

Brogdales Café, Faversham

This writing group covered techniques in fiction, taking participants through character, dialogue, theme, plot and voice.

Brown’s Café, Canterbury

This group encouraged people new to writing fiction to grow in their experience through light hearted and accessible writing exercises.

AllSorts Activity Week, Holy Trinity Church, Redhill

These holiday activity sessions for people aged 65+ have covered both fiction and life writing.

Pilates and Prose

Exercise and writing combine in this course with Lucia of Unwind.Biz. Enjoy connecting through the stories we tell, and stretching our minds between bursts of stretching the body with pilates!
