Time and Place
Collected Poems

Compiled and Edited by Liz Jennings, Keith Oliver and Jess Shaw

While the world was under lockdown, a new group connected across the nation to create poetry, build relationships and enjoy creative living together.

The project, called Time and Place, funded by the University of Kent, had originally planned to meet in Canterbury city centre each week to create poems inspired by history and evocative locations. And then came Covid-19. Rather than give up, the group went virtual via Liz this website: the Time became Lockdown, and the Place became home.

For five weeks, they wrote and shared and revelled in the process of wrestling with words and ideas together. This anthology contains the poems created, as well as reflections on the time spent together from participants, volunteers, organisers, and supporters.

Each poet has a diagnosis of dementia. The poems they created fizz with life, sharing ideas and experiences from the witty to the poignant. Join them on this creative voyage of discovery through their homes, with poetic stories to be told in every room.

This book also contains Liz’s guide to creating your own poems, and encouragements along the way in your writing journey.
